What's included

- Expenses: 240 records and 4 fields. One posted expense.
- Allocations: 240 records and 4 fields. One assignment of an expense amount to a grant.
Recommended analysis
- How much has been allocated to each grant?
- Which awards have the least unspent budget?
- Do allocation totals agree with posted expenses?
- Which programs have the highest travel share?
How to work with the data
Use the following relationships to connect the source tables:
- Allocations.expense_id → Expenses.expense_id
- Allocations.grant_id → Grants.grant_id
Check the row grain before joining. Aggregate repeated child records to the required level before combining totals, so parent amounts are not counted more than once.
You can explore the workbook in Excel or Jolene.pro, or use the CSV files with SQL, Power BI and other analysis tools.
Definitions and assumptions
- Each expense is allocated exactly once in this version. Allocated amounts match expense amounts.
- Award minus allocated expense is remaining budget, not available bank cash. Grant receipts and legal eligibility rules are not supplied.
Use the field definitions and nullable-column guidance in the included data dictionary. Interpret blank values and reporting dates according to the scenario notes.
