What's included
- Suppliers: 20 records and 4 fields. One fictional vendor.
- PurchaseOrders: 100 records and 5 fields. One approved purchase-order commitment.
- Invoices: 200 records and 5 fields. One vendor invoice against a purchase order.
Recommended analysis
- What portion of commitments has been invoiced?
- Which invoices await approval?
- How much commitment remains uninvoiced by category?
- Why do orders, invoices and payments represent different stages?
How to work with the data
Use the following relationships to connect the source tables:
- PurchaseOrders.supplier_id → Suppliers.supplier_id
- Invoices.purchase_order_id → PurchaseOrders.purchase_order_id
Check the row grain before joining. Aggregate repeated child records to the required level before combining totals, so parent amounts are not counted more than once.
You can explore the workbook in Excel or Jolene.pro, or use the CSV files with SQL, Power BI and other analysis tools.
Definitions and assumptions
- Entirely fictional procurement records. No agency, official program or jurisdiction is represented.
- Payments and goods-receipt records are not supplied. Approved invoice status does not establish payment or delivery.
Use the field definitions and nullable-column guidance in the included data dictionary. Interpret blank values and reporting dates according to the scenario notes.
