Fleet Trips and Maintenance Dataset
Compare vehicle fuel intensity, trip revenue and maintenance spending.
A practical workbook exercise for fleet managers and cost analysts. Work from the underlying records, compare the relevant totals and explain how you reached your result.
About the dataset
This original synthetic dataset contains 600 source records across three related tables. The records are fictional and designed for descriptive business analysis.

What's included
- Vehicles: 20 records and 4 fields. One fleet vehicle.
- Trips: 500 records and 6 fields. One completed trip.
- Maintenance: 80 records and 5 fields. One vehicle service invoice.
Recommended analysis
- Which vehicles consume the most liters per 100 km?
- Which depots have the largest maintenance cost per kilometer?
- Are results affected by vehicle type mix?
- Which costs are missing from a full trip-margin calculation?
How to work with the data
Use the following relationships to connect the source tables:
- Trips.vehicle_id → Vehicles.vehicle_id
- Maintenance.vehicle_id → Vehicles.vehicle_id
Check the row grain before joining. Aggregate repeated child records to the required level before combining totals, so parent amounts are not counted more than once.
You can explore the workbook in Excel or Jolene.pro, or use the CSV files with SQL, Power BI and other analysis tools.
Definitions and assumptions
- Use total liters / total kilometers for weighted fuel intensity.
- Distance is km and fuel is liters. No fuel prices, driver wages or vehicle depreciation are supplied; do not infer full profit.
Use the field definitions and nullable-column guidance in the included data dictionary. Interpret blank values and reporting dates according to the scenario notes.
